It is common knowledge that road accidents are rampant in India, but the exact number of deaths caused by such accidents is staggering, to say the least.

During the occasion of World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims, a national coalition of NGOs working for the cause of road safety revealed that over 400 Indians are killed by road accidents daily.

Compared with data just ten years ago, the rate of fatalities has increased by over 30%, which is the highest in the world.

Karnataka itself suffered with 11,133 deaths due to over 44,000 crashes last year.
